Last night I found a new interactive show online where Jack Welch, former Chairman and CEO of General Electric, is locked in a room with a few key people in a business. These key people hash out one or two major business issues they’re facing. After hashing out the issues with Jack Welch, they present solutions to their company’s CEO.
After watching the first 2 episodes I was struck by one key point Jack drove home in each episode – -
In the first episode he works with Hertz and discusses “Connect,” a new service Hertz is launching. About halfway through the discussion, Jack Welch asks:
“Why don’t we have a CEO of Connect?”
Hertz didn’t have an answer…
In episode 2 he works with Domino’s Pizza and one of the key issues they discuss is increasing their lunch business. Here is what Jack says:
“So who is the guy that gets up in the morning, all day, and tries to increase lunch profitability . . . someone that everyone in the building looks to as the guy or woman responsible for creating the lunch excitement?”
Domino’s didn’t have an answer…
Now it’s your turn. If Jack Welch walked into your business and you told him how important the internet is to your company’s future, would you have an answer to the inevitable question:
“Who is the guy or woman or who gets up in the morning, and promotes your business online all day long?”
Who is your “Internet Czar?”
If you’re really committed to marketing your business online, then it’s time. Make someone your fulltime internet marketer now. Put someone in charge of making you the dominant force online. Either do it now, or someone else will beat you to it.
C’mon. You know Jack Welch would do it if he were in your shoes. You aren’t going to let him down are you?
Sincerely,
Doug Stewart
