One Simple Technique for Getting More Facebook Fans

by Doug Stewart on March 10, 2010

The other day I noticed a very simple way business owners can grow their Facebook fan base. This technique or tip is so simple that you’ll probably ask yourself, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Here’s what happened.

Someone I’ve known since elementary school posted all her elementary school class pictures. Then she invited her friends to tag our fellow classmates in the pictures. See the screenshot below:

Names are hidden for privacy concerns

The screenshot illustrates the way to do this very well. As you can see, once people are tagged in the photos, they start friending.

For those of you who need steps or a formula, here it is . . .

Step 1: Upload photos of an event, party, conference, etc

Step 2: Invite your current Facebook fans to tag others in your photos. Make it a game or contest.

Step 3: Watch as the new Facebook friending frenzy begins

Remember, make it fun. Everyone likes to see pictures of themselves and friends. Do you have a good tip or technique for getting more Facebook fans? Tell us. Do you have a question about how to get more Facebook fans or friends? Ask.

Sincerely

Doug Stewart

This is a great idea, but will this attract the right type of people to your fan page. By right type, I mean prospects, influencers, people who want to hear what you have to say and respond in kind? One thing I've noticed is a fan page with tons of fans, but no interaction. That to me is a one-way conversation.

Great point. Make sure you're posting photos of current clients, influencers and prospects. Add photos of events where influencers and potential clients mingle. Photos are a great social lubricant. They start online conversations.

I used an example of a regular Facebook fan page and school photos to illustrate a point. Posting photos creates friends or fans. It also creates conversations. Now for the clarification. Posting your school photos on your business fan page is probably NOT a good idea. But photos of events, seminars, etc to your Facebook fan page is a good idea. Hope that clears things up.
